The hip joint is comprised of a ball and socket mechanism and is responsible for extreme forces which are caused by the impact of walking, jumping and running. It is a resilient joint but with enough wear and tear, weakness, or tight muscles, or certain genetic make-ups, may be susceptible to damage or injury. The mechanics and poor alignment of the lower leg may be a source of wear and tear to the joint. Many times arthritis may warrant the need for a joint replacement. Adding surgical hardware may lead to a leg length difference that will require devices like orthotics or lifts to remedy.
